Mintlify is acquiring Helicone, the open source LLM observability platform and AI gateway. Helicone's team, including founders Justin Torre and Cole Gottdank, are joining Mintlify in San Francisco to help build the next generation of knowledge infrastructure.
Today, we're excited to share that Mintlify is acquiring Helicone, the open source LLM observability platform and AI gateway.
We're building toward a future where AI agents maintain, update, and evolve the knowledge systems that companies run on. Getting there requires infrastructure that goes far beyond content. It requires intelligent routing, real-time observability, and seamless coordination across models and providers.
Helicone's team has been building at the frontier of agentic AI, and they're joining Mintlify to help us get there faster. Founders Justin Torre and Cole Gottdank, are coming on board in San Francisco to help build the next generation of AI knowledge infrastructure.

Strengthening the core of our AI stack
Mintlify serves tens of thousands of companies and supports AI queries for millions of people each month, with usage growing quickly.
AI systems depend on both high quality content and reliable infrastructure. They need current knowledge, strong routing, monitoring, and failover to perform well. We’re building both layers, end-to-end.
Why Helicone
The Helicone team have spent three years watching how AI systems actually get used in production across 16,000 organizations. They've seen the shift from simple LLM calls to autonomous agents that act on behalf of users.
This is the future we’re building toward: AI systems that don't just answer questions, but maintain knowledge, take action, and operate independently. This team closes the gap.
What's next for Mintlify
Bringing Helicone into Mintlify unlocks several things across our AI products:
- More accurate and performant AI services, including the Mintlify assistant, Mintlify agent, and Mintlify workflows
- Deeper analytics and observability across all AI interactions and traffic
- Integrated routing and multi-provider fallback handling
- A unified full stack AI knowledge infrastructure
This is the infrastructure layer for the agentic future, and we're building it end-to-end.
Moving forward for Helicone customers
Helicone will continue operating in maintenance mode—security updates, bug fixes, and new models will keep shipping. We'll work closely with every customer to support a smooth migration to another platform.

Docs as an abstraction layer for coding agents
A large engineering org ran controlled experiments to measure how structured Mintlify docs affect agent performance on massive codebases. The results: 64% more precise, 39% more discoverable, half the tokens, 1.5x faster.
