How to Download an Audiobook

1

Open audiobook details

Browse or search for an audiobook, then tap it to open the details page.
2

Start download

Tap the download icon in the orange control bar (left icon, next to the play button).
3

Monitor progress

The download begins immediately. You’ll see:
  • A progress notification showing download percentage
  • The ability to continue browsing while downloading
4

Download completes

Once finished, the audiobook is available for offline playback. The download icon changes to indicate the audiobook is already downloaded.
Downloads include all audio files for the audiobook plus metadata (cover art, description, chapter information).

Managing Downloads

Access your downloaded audiobooks through the Downloads page:

Viewing Downloads

  1. Tap the Downloads icon in the bottom navigation bar
  2. Your downloads are organized into three sections:
    • Active Downloads: Currently downloading or paused
    • Failed Downloads: Downloads that encountered errors
    • Completed: Successfully downloaded audiobooks

Download Status Indicators

Each download shows:
  • Audiobook title and cover art
  • Progress bar (for active downloads)
  • Download date (for completed downloads)
  • Error message (for failed downloads)
  • Status icon:
    • Downloading arrow (blue) - actively downloading
    • Pause icon (orange) - download paused
    • Checkmark (green) - download complete
    • Alert icon (red) - download failed

Canceling Downloads

1

Find active download

Open the Downloads page and locate the audiobook in the “Active Downloads” section.
2

Cancel

Tap the X icon next to the download progress.
3

Confirm

The download stops immediately and any partial files are removed from your device.

Playing Downloaded Audiobooks

Once downloaded, audiobooks work offline:
1

Open from Downloads

Go to the Downloads page and tap any completed audiobook.
2

Playback starts offline

The audiobook details page opens with all your downloaded content. No internet connection is required.
3

Full offline functionality

All features work offline including:
  • Chapter navigation
  • Playback speed control
  • Sleep timer
  • Equalizer settings
Downloaded audiobooks also appear in your normal library and can be accessed from the home screen just like streaming content.

Deleting Downloads

Free up storage space by removing downloaded audiobooks:
1

Navigate to Downloads

Open the Downloads page from the bottom navigation.
2

Find the audiobook

Locate the audiobook in the “Completed” section.
3

Delete

Tap the trash icon next to the audiobook title.
4

Confirm deletion

A dialog appears asking for confirmation. Tap Delete to remove all downloaded files.
Deleting a download removes it from your device but keeps it in your favorites (if you’ve added it) and in your playback history. You can re-download it anytime.

Managing Download Errors

If a download fails:
Ensure your device has enough free storage. Audiobooks can range from a few hundred MB to several GB depending on length and quality.
Failed downloads often result from interrupted internet connections. Check your WiFi or mobile data connection.
In the “Failed Downloads” section, tap the refresh icon to retry downloading the audiobook.
If retrying doesn’t work, delete the failed download and start fresh from the audiobook’s detail page.

Finding Downloaded Files

Downloaded audiobooks are stored in your device’s app directory:
  1. Open the Downloads page
  2. Tap the folder icon in the top-right corner
  3. A message displays the storage path (typically /Android/data/com.aradia.audiobooks/files/downloads/)
Direct file access may require a file manager app. The path is provided for advanced users who want to back up or manage files manually.

Download Best Practices

Use WiFi for large downloads: Audiobooks can be several gigabytes. Connect to WiFi to avoid using mobile data.
Download before traveling: Prepare your offline library before trips by downloading audiobooks while you have good connectivity.
Manage storage proactively: Regularly delete finished audiobooks to free up space for new downloads.

Storage Requirements

Typical audiobook sizes:
  • Short story collections: 100-300 MB
  • Standard novels: 300-800 MB
  • Long novels: 800 MB - 2 GB
  • Epic series or collections: 2+ GB
Check your device’s available storage in your device settings before downloading large audiobooks.
