Websites are the core of Umami’s analytics platform. Each website you add gets its own tracking code and dedicated dashboard where you can monitor visitor activity, engagement metrics, and user behavior.

Creating a Website

Add a new website to start tracking analytics:

Navigate to Websites

From the main navigation, click on Websites to view all your tracked websites.

Add Website

Click the Add Website button in the top right corner.

Enter Details

Provide the following information:
  • Name: A descriptive name for your website (e.g., “Company Blog”)
  • Domain: Your website’s domain (e.g., example.com)
The domain should match the format: example.com without http:// or https://

Get Tracking Code

After creation, go to the website settings to copy your unique tracking code.

Website Dashboard

Each website has a comprehensive dashboard showing:

Real-time Metrics

Monitor live visitor activity with key metrics:
  • Current visitors online
  • Page views
  • Unique visitors
  • Bounce rate
  • Average visit duration

Traffic Sources

Understand where your visitors come from:
  • Referrer domains
  • UTM campaign parameters
  • Geographic locations
  • Devices and browsers

Content Performance

See which pages perform best:
  • Most visited pages
  • Entry and exit pages
  • Page titles and URLs
  • Custom events

Historical Trends

Analyze data over time:
  • Customizable date ranges
  • Time-based charts
  • Comparison with previous periods
  • Export data for analysis

Website Settings

Manage your website configuration and tracking:

Basic Settings

Update your website information:
  • Name: Change the display name
  • Domain: Update the tracked domain

Tracking Code

Get your tracking script to install on your website:

Place the tracking code in the <head> section of your website for optimal tracking.

Share URL

Generate a public link to share your analytics dashboard with others. See Share URLs for more details.

Data Management

Clear all analytics data for this website while keeping the website configuration. This action cannot be undone.
Permanently remove the website and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.

Team Websites

Websites can be owned by individual users or by teams:
  • Personal websites: Created under your account
  • Team websites: Shared with team members based on their roles
To create a team website, select a team when adding a new website. All team members will have access based on their role permissions.

Website Transfer

Transfer website ownership between users or to a team:

Open Settings

Navigate to the website settings page.

Transfer Ownership

Select the transfer option and choose the new owner (user or team).

Confirm Transfer

Confirm the transfer to complete the process.
Once transferred, you may lose access to the website unless you’re added back as a team member.

Best Practices

  • Use clear, descriptive names for easy identification
  • Keep domains accurate for proper tracking
  • Regularly review your website list and archive unused sites
  • Use teams for shared websites to enable collaboration
  • Generate share URLs for stakeholders who don’t need full access
